HOW-TO GUIDES

Kitchen storage ideas - How to organise your kitchen

Kitchen organisation ideas

A tidy home makes for a tidy mind, and there’s nothing quite as satisfying as an organised kitchen. With a household’s average family weekly food shop coming in at £63.70, your kitchen has to hold space for food and drinks products, as well as condiments, herbs and spices, cutlery, crockery, cooking equipment and so much more. It’s no surprise that things can soon begin to get messy!

This is where kitchen storage and organisation come into play. From shelves and wall hooks to storage boxes and jars, there are so many simple (and often cost- effective) ways you can organise your kitchen. Read on to find out how!

Shelves

Perfect for smaller kitchens with limited floor space, shelves and shelving units are a great way to make use of your walls and categorise your items. Ladder shelves have the benefits of saving space and keeping the room light and airy, while bookshelves give your home some character and can hold lots of items.

Kitchen storage cabinet

Like shelves, cabinets are a great way to store extra items that might currently be taking up space on the sides and surfaces. Pretty much every kitchen comes with built-in cabinets, however if you’re after some extra storage then you can buy cabinets by themselves to hold any additional items.

Storage baskets

From large, laundry-style baskets to small baskets perfect for slotting into your cupboards, storage baskets are a stylish and decorative way to store your items. Since they match well with most kitchen aesthetics, white, brown or grey wicker are popular choices, though some people choose to stand out with a rope or velour basket.

Wall hooks

If space-saving is your priority, then you can’t go wrong with wall hooks. Ideal for hanging everything from dishcloths to mugs, wall hooks come in a range of styles, designs and colours to match the look of your kitchen.

Kitchen bench with storage

Perfect for injecting some character into your kitchen, storage benches are a fabulously diverse piece of furniture. Usually, these appear as a bench or table, where the surface can be lifted to reveal a storage area tucked away underneath. Accessorise your bench with a few cushions or decorate a storage table with candles, plants and a lamp.

Kitchen storage jars

One of the best ways to organise your kitchen cupboards is with storage jars. Instead of keeping everything in its packaging, use storage jars to organise cupboard items such as rice, cereal and tea bags to keep things looking neat and tidy. If you’re feeling super organised, make labels for each jar describing what it holds, as well as the item’s best before date.

Kitchen storage boxes and food container

Whether you need a place to store prepped meals or want a no-fuss lunch box, food containers are the best way to keep your food fresh until you’re ready to eat it. Storage boxes come in all different shapes and sizes, including cake tins, milk bottle holders and labelled condiment canisters, so it’s easy to keep food fresh no matter what you’re trying to preserve
.

Sink storage

The space under your sink can soon get cluttered with everything from cleaning products to spare dishcloths, so why not organise your space with some sink storage? Storage items like a sink tidy are handy for keeping your washing-up liquid and sponges together, while larger boxes are best stored within a cupboard underneath your sink.
