As they develop, your child’s foot needs room to grow and toes need space to move freely to support their balance.Your child’s feet are growing pretty much constantly, so it can be useful to check their size frequently.
The good news is, our experts have developed a fool-proof guide to help you ensure their new shoes are the perfect fit.
1. Print the guide

Fold up the edge along the line next to the measuring chart. Place the two separate sections side by side on a hard floor and with the heel edge against the wall.
2. Position the feet
Stand your child on the guide with their heels pushed back against the wall. The inside of the feet should be together in the centre.
3. Finding the size
To find your child's shoe size look from above directly over the toes and measure to the end of the longest toe (if the toe is between numbers this indicates a half size).
4. Finding the width
Check against the corresponding shoe size to see which shaded area the widest part of the foot sits in (use the biggest size when ordering if the two feet are different).
3. Choose shoes
4. Fit shoes
1. Put on the shoes
Make sure the foot is pushed right back before fastening.
2. Check length
With child standing, press gently to check where the longest toe comes to. Is there 10-12mm of space for growing room?
3. Check width
Feel along the sides of the shoe to check there is no pressure on the big or little toes.
4. Check depth
Rub your thumb gently across the top of the foot - the leather or fabric should move in a slight ripple, but not pleat or crease.
5. Check ankle
Does the shoe fit neatly around the ankle bone to avoid rubbing?
6. Check heel
Does the shoe grip well around the heel and not slip off?
Check your child walks easily and naturally in the shoes, and they don't gape or slip.
